Rental dwelling

There are rental dwellings in the villages of Ruukki, Luohua, Paavola, Revonlahti and Siikajoki.

You can apply for municipal rental dwellings. Fill in an application form at the municipal housing office (kunnanviraston asuntotoimisto) or print out the form (pdf) from the municipality's website.

The municipal website also provides instructions for applying for rental dwellings. Siikajoki's rental dwellings are available for everybody to apply for. The municipal housing queue is short.

Pytinki rental dwellings are available for everybody to apply for. Additional information and the application form are available on the Pytinki website.

You can also rent a dwelling from a private lessor. Dwellings that are available for rental are advertised on the municipality's website and in local newspapers. If you are looking for a rental dwelling, you can also place an advertisement yourself. The rent for a privately owned rental dwelling is agreed between the tenant and the landlord.

Owner-occupied housing

Most Finns live in owner-occupied dwellings, in other words in dwellings they themselves own. If you buy your own dwelling, it is often less expensive in the long term than living in a rental dwelling.

Temporary housing

Within the municipality of Siikajoki, temporary housing is provided by the Red House of Pökkylä (Pökkylän Punanen Tupa) in the village of Luohua, Törmälä Estate (Törmälän tila) in the village of Siikajoenkylä and Taukokartano in the village of Revonlahti.

If your dwelling has been damaged as a result of, say, a fire or water damage, home insurance can, in some cases, cover a part of the additional living expenses. Contact your insurance company as soon as the damage has occurred.

If a member of your family is violent towards you or threatens you with violence, you can seek protection in a shelter (turvakoti). You can call a shelter at any time of the day or night. You do not need to give your name when you call.

Supported and service housing

In Finland, supported housing (tukiasuminen) and service housing (palveluasuminen) are available to those in need of support in living independently, such as elderly or disabled persons.

Housing allowance

If you are on a low income, you may be eligible to receive housing allowance from the Social Insurance Institution of Finland, Kela. To apply for a housing allowance, fill in an application form and submit it at the secondary local office of Kela situated in the Ruukki Municipal Office, open on Mondays from 10 am to 3 pm.

Search for a customer service point

Waste management and recycling

Waste which cannot be placed in your own building's waste containers can be taken to recycling points. Such waste includes, for example, metal, glass or poisonous chemicals. Check in advance what kind of waste the recycling station accepts.

The pharmacy of Siikajoki in Ruukki accepts medical waste.
